Good health is a key component of aging well, and there are many free community-based programs to help seniors improve their health.

Fitness Opportunities

The Waupun Senior Center offers a wide variety of fitness classes for adults 50+.  Please check the senior center newsletter for available classes and times.  Please note, to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, all fitness classes will have a maximum capacity of 20 participants.  Call 324-7930 to reserve your spot.  If there is not answer, please leave a message.

Fitness Classes in Surrounding Areas:

Silver Sneakers Water Wellness at the Fond du Lac Aquatic Center is open to the public six days a week for a variety of activities that include swim lessons, open swim, water wellness classes and swim team practices and meets.  Water wellness classes are ongoing at the Fond du Lac Aquatic Center.  Each class must have a minimum of 5 participants to run.

YMCA Senior Programming classes and events at the Fond du Lac YMCA welcomes mature adults, AOA members, AARPⓇ Medicare Supplement Program, Renew Active, Silver & FitⓇ, SilverSneakersⓇ members and seniors.  Through physical activity, classes and social events, the YMCA Senior Programming provides you with a strong sense of belongingness and a network of friends who provide supportive communities for sustained health and well-being.

The YMCA of Dodge County is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. The YMCA of Dodge County offers great fitness class options that are designed to meet the needs of our Senior Members (although anyone can join in on a class). Our classes provide fitness, fun, and a sense of community.  Come to workout and to make new friends!

Wellness Educational Opportunities

The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Dodge County offers several different evidence based classes through Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA).  Please contact 920-386-3580 for a listing of when the following classes are available:

  • Healthy Living with Chronic Pain is a workshop for people who have on-going, persistent pain.  This community-based program is very interactive, where mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their pain.  The workshop meets for two hours, once a week, for six weeks.  The next session starts November 11, 2021.  This is a free, virtual event but registration prior to November 4, 2021 is required.
  • Healthy Living with Diabetes intended for anyone who has, or lives with someone who has, diabetes.  This is a six week workshop designed to be a complement to treatment that participants receive from their health providers.  Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health condition and maintain active and fulfilling lives.  
  • Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a six week workshop for people who have one or more chronic conditions.  A chronic condition is an ongoing health problem or disease such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression, and other long-term problems.  Mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health condition to maintain active and fulfilling lives.  Participants of this program have reported from improved general health, fewer days of hospitalizations, and fewer health care visits. 
  • Mind Over Matter: Healthy Bowels, Healthy Bladder  is a workshop designed to give women the tools they need to take control of their bladder and bowel symptoms.  It meets for three, two-hour sessions every other week. Learn new information and group activities along with simple exercises and dietary changes to practice at home.  Even if you do not have leakage symptoms now, it is never too early or too late to think about your bladder and bowel health!
  • Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to help caregivers take care of themselves while taking care of a relative or friend.
  • Stepping On is a falls prevention workshop that empowers older adults to carry out health behaviors that reduce the risks of falls.  It is offered once a week for seven consecutive weeks for two hours.  Older adults learn balance and strengthening exercises and develop specific knowledge and skills to prevent falls.  
  • Walk with Ease  teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of your every day.  Whether you need relief from arthritis pain or just want to be active, Walk with Ease can teach you how to safely make physical activity part of your everyday life.
